A Fantastic Short Break in Durham

Went to Durham with the main intention of visiting Beamish museum. The hotel was excellent in every way apart from the lack of air conditioning.The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Beamish reached by taxi rather than bus and although more expensive it was literally door to door and value for money due to the interesting commentary from the friendly taxi driver. Beamish was very easy to get around but it would probably take more than one visit to see everything properly.

Attractions of Durham City

Restaurants are a bit limited unless you like Italian. If you do, Bella Italia has a conservatory overlooking the river--book a table in advance. Plenty of pubs. Try the Shakespear--very small but friendly and good choice of real ales. A stroll along the riverbank is just as good as the sightseeing trip on the cruiser. If you hire a rowboat watch out for the university teams in training;they move at quite a pace!
